Faking videos … the future of “proof” and “evidence” …
I was recently at the Foresight Institute conference and saw a presentation by David Friedman. He was talking about the issues of technology and the justice system … and joked about the use of technology to create pictures and videos. (Visit this link and search for “Say It Ain’t So” …) As the technology evolves forward, it will be harder and harder to determine a “real” video from one that has been “created” … and this work is providing that we are already there. It is only a matter of time till we are going to be questioning more and more what we “see” with our own eyes!

The future of urban art … a very cool new version …
This is one of the coolest ideas that I have seen in art and the urban landscape. Using the office lights in a tall building at night to create a giant animated canvas. People are then able to download an application to create the animations and contribute them to the groups running the project.

I’m almost interested in finding a company here in Salt Lake City that would be interested in doing the same thing!

A German Computer Club’s Eight Story Hack. I originally found this site from a story posted on ABC News. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, the German Chaos Computer Club has turned the top eight stories, eighteen windows per floor, of an East Berlin building into a giant display. The project, called Blinkenlights has downloadable software called Blinkenpaint that allows anyone to create a simple movie that can be played on the giant display. View some of the contributed movies here. My favorites include das Monster and this Internet pop culture retread. If you want to direct dial a German phone number you can even play Pong. Art and Music … very cool article and site …
This is a “must keep” web site … this guy is extremely creative. Not only is he modifying toys and other sounds producing devices in artistic ways, he is adding jacks and pitch controls so that they can be used by bands! You too can plug a noisy kids toy into your amp and add a whole new dimension of sound to your bands music!

Very cool “sniffer” application …
I couldn’t help but read through this application description. Very innovative … I really like it. This application not only “sniffs” IP traffic off any Internet connection, it looks for images being transferred over HTTP connections, and grabs the images … displaying them for your viewing pleasure! (Or displeasure!)

What I really like is that this demonstrates how insecure your connections can be … it looks for specific data types and snatches them … and could be a very usefull tool for administrators. This again shows how VPNs and SOCKS proxies can really provide you more security … if implemented correctly.

Amazing job with Flash …
During the last presidential election, here in the USA, there was a great “Election Day” flash animation from JibJab making it’s rounds on the Internet. This is a similar one that is pointed at the UK and their leaders … and it is great! What fun!

An awesome Flash site … based on the work of a visionary …
I have to say that I am beyond impressed with the incredible vision and foresight of Ray Kurzweil … and this is a cool site based of this incredible book. If you have not yet read this book, it is a must read! His upcoming book on the Singularity is also bound to be awesome. I am now working on my first paper on my theories of memetics … we’ll see how it goes …
